International Student Day is one of the funnest youth holidays. Cheerful companies of young people studying in universities greet each other, walk around the city and have parties. It is not a sin, but rather a custom to raise a glass in honor of this holiday. Many universities have their own celebration traditions: on this day, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy washes the monument to Grigory Skovoroda, the Frank University in Lviv dresses the writer's monument in a mantle.
Former students welcome classmates - this is a good reason to get together or at least communicate from a distance. In Ukraine, many were students, so the holiday is almost universal. A picture, a poem or an ordinary sincere greeting will remind everyone of the fun years of youth. Young people can also congratulate older relatives and acquaintances on Student's Day to make them a pleasant reminder.
This day unites everyone - excellent students and those who barely keep up with their studies, new and former students. No matter how student times go, not everyone remembers them as the best time in their life.
Tatyana's Day - why is it called that?
Tatyana's Day is named after Saint Tatyana from the Orthodox calendar. According to legend, she was the daughter of a Roman official and a secret Christian. The local perfect found out about this, ordered to capture the girl and force her to make a sacrifice to Apollo. After her prayer, an earthquake occurred and destroyed the statue of the Roman god. Tatyana was tortured and thrown to a lion, which refused to attack the girl, who, however, was executed with a sword. This happened in 225-230 AD.
According to the UOC calendar, this day falls on January 25, as in previous years. In the new calendar of the OCU, Tatyana's day is January 12. But should January 25 be celebrated as student day? Rather not, because Tatyana's Day, like Student's Day, is a Russian holiday. It was founded by Empress Elizabeth in 1755 in honor of the first university in Moscow. Then the church of St. Tatyana (in honor of the mother of the minister of education of the empire) was opened on its territory. We will remind you that universities already existed in Ukraine at that time, if only because of this, this is by no means the day of Ukrainian students.
Now Ukraine is in a state of war due to an aggressive attack by Russia, but both 200 and 300 years ago, the Russians committed wars of violence and prohibition against everything Ukrainian - including repeatedly banning Ukrainian education - just like the Germans mentioned in this story against the Czechs. This should be remembered by those who are going to celebrate Tatyana's Day and congratulate others with it.
When is International Student Day celebrated?
And when is International Student Day celebrated in Ukraine? The official holiday in our country, as in many countries, falls on November 17. This is the commemorative day of the tragedy committed by the German Nazis in the Czech capital, Prague. On October 28, 1939, the SS dispersed a demonstration in honor of the Czechoslovak Republic. Medical student Jan Opletal was wounded that day and died of his wounds on November 11.
For four days, on November 15, thousands of young people gathered for the student's funeral, which turned into a demonstration of protest against the occupiers. The next day, the Germans decided to close all Czech universities for three years (however, they opened only after the end of World War II and the defeat of the Nazis).
On November 17, 1939, the arrests of thousands of students began in the Czech Republic. Activists were executed in prisons, and 1,200 young men were sent to a concentration camp. The events were accompanied by mass torture and abuse of young people. As a sign of respect for the victims, the International Student Day was established, to which Ukraine officially joined in 1999.
In recent years, Ukraine has been confidently moving towards the European community, although not as quickly as it would like. Common holidays and values unite Europeans and give an opportunity to remember tragic things that should be avoided. International Student Day 2024 on November 17 is another occasion to unite with the European community and civilization.
We are well aware of the difference between European life and values and what Russia carries. So everyone has the opportunity to decide for himself when the student's day 2024 should be celebrated.
The best congratulations on the day of the student

Poems for the student's day
From session to session
Students live happily,
And the session is only twice a year.
To be a student -
To gain knowledge
know everything
Like father and mother.
Bite science
Granite is not easy,
Without fatigue and pain,
Let's take off!
***
Students are such a people,
Who can't do without adventures,
And, by the way, there are enough of them:
A sneaky session awaits
Did the teacher object -
Then at least sit down and cry...
And the lectures are all similar -
Boring The student cannot sit
But when the seminar comes,
The student suddenly has a burden:
He is not visible from behind the desk,
He doesn't like jokes anymore,
Although the teacher wears glasses,
Attendees are marked in pairs,
Then comes the transmissions
And again the student sobs and cries...
But all topics will be revealed - look,
The scholarship is already available.
The profession "student" is cool,
Although, unfortunately, for a short time:
Ten semesters or five years -
These are the legal terms for us,
So I hasten to congratulate us all:
Happy our day! Happy our holiday!
***
Young and desperate
The student's day has already arrived.
I congratulate and wish -
So that you have time in your studies.
So that all sciences are together
Found shelter in the head,
And they helped you
In adult life!
Let all sessions pass
And there were no tails,
Let the students all laugh,
I wish you happiness and joy!

Pictures for student's day
So is it worth worrying about historical events and tragedies on student day? Every greeting you give to anyone should be happy and uplifting. It is worth treating each person individually and taking into account whether the student's day greeting will be joyful for him on this particular date. Some people sincerely rejoice at any greeting and attention, while others may be upset.
At one time, some Ukrainians greeted others on February 23, which caused many people only regret and irritation. But no matter when you celebrate the student's day 2024, we wish inspiration, cheerful mood and success in studies to those who have not yet passed it!
