Mom is the warmest childhood memories, warmth, love and care. The person we turn to for wise counsel, even in adulthood, is also about the mother. Despite the difficulties of adult life, the native home and mother are like a harbor that protects from the hostile world and human injustice. A mother's love is something that remains the same as long as she lives. Mother's Day is celebrated in Ukraine every year, this holiday coincides with International Mother's Day, which falls on the second Sunday of the third spring month.
Mother's Day - a brief description and idea of the origin of the holiday
Since ancient times, women who gave life have been honored. That is why cults of mother goddesses existed. For example, in ancient Egypt, Isis was worshiped - the goddess who ruled the world, she was considered the ideal of motherhood, femininity, as well as fidelity.
According to ancient Greek belief, the mother of the gods was Rhea, the goddess of fertility, peace and comfort. Also in Ancient Rome, the ancient goddess Cybele - "Great Mother" was respected. This goddess gave life, looked after children. In the ancient world, the traditions of honoring the mother gods, with the advent of Christianity, turned into a holiday - "Mother's Sunday". On this day, believers visited the church, which was the first church in life, it was also called "mother church".
Where exactly did the history of its origin begin and when is Mother's Day celebrated? It all started with American Ann Jarvis, who was a mother of thirteen children. It was she who founded so-called "working clubs" in 1858, where mothers could meet with doctors and discuss the rules of hygiene and child care. Already in 1868, E. Jarvis founded Mothers' Friendship Day. In 1905, after Anne's death, her daughter, Anna, did everything possible to establish a holiday - Mother's Day. A. Jarvis launched a whole campaign so that the holiday would exist in memory of her mother. All the work and efforts were not in vain, already in 1914 - Mother's Day was recognized by the current president of the USA. After the end of the First World War, "Mother's Day" began to be celebrated throughout Europe - Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and other countries. Now it is an international event celebrated in almost every country.

When Mother's Day is celebrated in our country, Ukrainians started celebrating this day in 1928, however, it was the first time it happened in the Canadian diaspora. In the following years, "Mother's Day" was celebrated already in Lviv, Ternopil, and later throughout Ukraine. 1939 is the time when Mother's Day was banned by the Soviet authorities. 1999 — Mother's Day is celebrated at the state level, after gaining independence.
The traditions of celebrating this holiday are very diverse, they differ slightly in each country. America and European countries - it is customary to give flowers, postcards, gather around the family table, hold concerts and performances, and special services are also held in churches. For example, on this day, Australians congratulate not only mothers, but also aunts and grandmothers. Generally accepted customs of the celebration have also become quite popular in our country. Children happily greet their most beloved mothers, give flowers and gifts. It would be a good idea to invite mom to a movie theater or a restaurant, as well as organize a family dinner where only close friends will gather.
