The army is the power, the power of the state, as well as the defense of the borders. During the times of Kievan Rus, the army consisted of the prince's wife and the people's militia. The history of the Ukrainian army began with the Cossacks. Already at the time of independence, the Armed Forces of Ukraine were created, which included various units. Marines are a powerful component of our army. Marines demonstrate their motivation and professionalism every time. Marines of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are troops that perform tasks in sea and air spaces, on the country's seashore, protect important coastal facilities and state borders.
The history of the emergence of the naval army and who are "sea warriors"
The first sea campaigns took place as early as 260 BC, during the Punic Wars, when the Romans fought the Carthaginians. On the territory of Ukraine, a battle flotilla was created in 860 by the Kiev princes. Cossacks also went on sea expeditions, the first mention of this appeared as early as 1492. In those ancient times, the Zaporozhians boarded a Turkish war galley, this happened on the territory of the modern Black Sea region. Over the course of a hundred years, the Zaporizhia made many sea voyages, skilfully managed "seagulls" - deckless rowing and sailing boats, they were used in the seventeenth century.
Marine infantry, as a separate specialized type of troops, first appeared in England in 1664. The Ukrainian "sea army", its first units were created during the national liberation movement of the Ukrainian people - 1917-1921. May 23 is the Day of the Marine Corps of Ukraine — on this day in 1918, Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky ordered the formation of a Marine Corps brigade consisting of three regiments. During the time of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the development of the marines continued, the 1st Hutsul Regiment was founded in 1919, and was to include military personnel serving in the Austro-Hungarian fleets. However, in fact, the regiment had many Carpathian forest rafters who knew how to skilfully manage rafts and could also become good sailors.
Some information about the Marine Corps:
In February 1992, a base was laid for the creation of the Marine Corps of Ukraine, at that time a separate battalion of the Marine Corps 880, located in Sevastopol, swore allegiance to the Ukrainian people;
In July 1993, the twenty-seventh separate marine infantry battalion was formed in the same Sevastopol, the best officers of the Black Sea Fleet served in it;
In 2014, after the occupation of Crimea, marines who did not betray the oath of Ukraine were redeployed to Mykolaiv;
At the present time, the thirty-fifth and thirty-sixth brigades of marines are called by the names of rear admirals — M. Bilinskyi and M. Ostrogradskyi;
In 2018, the color of the berets of the Ukrainian marines was changed from black to the color of a sea wave;
The main motto of the military is "Always Faithful", and the beret insignia has the image of the winged sword of P. Sahaydachny superimposed on an anchor.
What structures are the naval forces divided into. Currently, there are several brigades of marines in Ukraine: 35 separate brigade named after M. Ostrogradskyi, 36 separate brigade named after M. Bilinsky, 406 separate artillery brigade named after Corporal General O. Almazov, thirty-second rocket artillery regiment, five hundred and third separate battalion, one hundred and fortieth separate reconnaissance battalion. Marine Corps Day 2014, in March of this year the date of the celebration was set by the decree of the President of the Resident of Ukraine - November 16, later this date was moved in 2018 to the twenty-third of May. The main tasks of the professional army:
to act in the state of tactical sea and air landings to capture areas of the sea coast, islands, ports, bases, airfields and other objects on the enemy's coast;
conduct the defense of amphibious dangerous areas of the coast of the Black and Azov seas. Conduct stabilization, raid, offensive, defensive operations and cover the state border;
strengthen naval bases, bases, sea and river ports;
participate in anti-terrorist, anti-piracy and peacekeeping operations on the territory of Ukraine or abroad.
Marine Corps Day of Ukraine is not just another holiday date in the calendar. This holiday has great significance and symbolism, because modern warriors are the successors of the best fighting traditions of the participants of the liberation struggle of the beginning of the twentieth century.
Today, marine units, together with other soldiers of the Ukrainian army, are heroically defending our Motherland from the Russian invaders, once again fighting for the right to a free and peaceful life. It is worth congratulating everyone involved, all the brave, loved ones and friends on Marine Corps Day.
