In ancient times, even before the advent of Christianity, our ancestors had great respect for fire. It was believed that it was given to humanity by the gods, fire provided warmth and the opportunity to cook food. The hearth in the house was considered sacred. Firefighters - "fighters with fire" appeared later. This profession has always been and is very important, it is a risky job that is subject to not everyone and deserves respect. That is why the holiday was founded to honor the rescuers - the International Day of Firefighters.

Our great-grandfathers built houses near rivers and lakes, dug a well in the yard, and also had the simplest fire equipment - a variety of buckets, ladders, axes, everything that could be needed for extinguishing a fire. Starting from the eleventh to the seventeenth century, fire prevention legislation was formed in Ukraine, which was supposed to reduce the number of fires caused by intentional criminal actions. In medieval Ukraine, castles, which were surrounded by moats with water, played an important role in fire protection. During big fires, such castles served as a kind of shelter for the population.
Extinguishing fires in the cities and villages of our country has been carried out by the population for many generations, first in the form of mutual aid, and later in the order of natural firefighting. When news of a fire broke out, people had to get to the scene of the accident as quickly as possible with their personal equipment. Untrained in extinguishing techniques, they were of little use. The first professional fire brigades appeared in Ukraine at the beginning of the nineteenth century, but they became widespread only in its second half. Periods of occurrence:
